Description
Fossilized Gastropod in Baltic Amber — Lithuania, ~40 Million Years Old
A rare window into a lost Eocene world. This specimen preserves a tiny gastropod, its coiled shell still intact within golden Baltic amber, alongside delicate inclusions and trapped organic matter that hint at the resin’s original environment. Sourced from Lithuanian deposits, this piece is approximately 44 million years old—formed when ancient Pinus succinifera forests blanketed what is now the southeastern Baltic coast.
Baltic amber is renowned for preserving organisms with extraordinary fidelity, but fossilized mollusks are far less common than insects or plant fragments, making this an exceptional collector’s piece. The warm honey tones, natural surface texture, and visible spiral detail of the shell make it equally suited to display under magnification or as part of a paleontological collection.
Origin: Lithuania (Baltic amber deposits)
Age: ~40 million years (Eocene epoch)
Inclusion: Gastropod (sea snail), preserved in situ and is microscopic
Amber is 1.7 cm x 1.2 cm x 0.3 cm and weighs 0.3 grams
